Continuous efforts have been taken by the Government to improve older person’s quality of life. In 1996, the National Information Technology Agenda, lifelong activities and opportunities were made available for older persons population particularly among rural communities. In 2008, the University of the Third Age Malaysia (U3A Malaysia) was launched after a successful pilot programme to promote lifelong learning among older persons. The Lifelong Learning Initiative for the Older Persons programme promotes active and productive ageing by introducing lifelong activities that facilitate the sharing of life experiences, building knowledge and gaining new skills in later life.
