Cambodia’s Statistics Law (promulgated in 2015 and aligned with the National Statistical System) establishes the legal framework for collecting, compiling, and disseminating official socio-economic data. It mandates the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) to coordinate all statistical activities, enforce data confidentiality, and publish the official Statistical Yearbook.


\Key components of the legal framework include:

National Statistical System (NSS): The NIS, under the Ministry of Planning, governs the NSS and manages designated official statistics. Relevant ministries must establish internal statistical units to supply data.

Data Confidentiality: Individual responses provided by respondents are strictly confidential and must be used exclusively for statistical purposes. They cannot be used as evidence in court or for taxation.

Mandatory Reporting: Individuals and businesses are legally obligated to provide accurate and truthful data to authorized statistical officers upon request.
