A short constitutive Act that incorporates the office of the Director General of Social Welfare, Malaysia, as a body corporate ("the corporation"), giving it perpetual succession, a corporate seal, and legal capacity to enter into contracts and sue/be sued in its own name. Originally enacted in 1948 (Ord. No. 22/1948), revised as Act 529 with effect from 12 December 1994. Purpose: provides the legal-personality foundation that allows the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to administer welfare services, funds, and property as a corporate entity rather than through individual officer-holders. Relevance: The legal backbone enabling JKM to manage welfare programmes, including disaster relief and social protection functions.
